Under Arm Sweating

Excessive under arm sweating is a medical condition called hyperhydrosis. It can be very problematic for sufferers impacting every part of their lives. There are many different treatments that can help the condition from prescription strength topical preparations to surgical interventions for more extreme cases.

Botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX) injections are one option for treatment. Multiple injections to each armpit helps to temporarily block the chemical signals to the nerves which stimulate the sweat glands and reduces the amount of sweat produced. The effects of the treatment can last up to 6 months.

You may experience redness, itchiness, swelling and bruising from the treatment which settle in a few days. Around 5% of people may experience increased sweating in other areas (compensatory sweating) which usually settles in a few months. Very rare complications include headaches, nausea and muscle weakness which all resolve.

The treatment takes around 30 minutes and costs from £250.
