Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy or microsclerotherapy is a treatment to help improve the appearance of thread veins or spider veins on the legs.
The procedure involves a solution being injected directly into the affected vein(s) which causes the vein to scar, collapse and no longer be viable. Blood supply is diverted to other veins and the treated vein is broken down by the body.
Depending on the severity of the condition more than one session may be required.
Raised red areas or hives, bruising, small skin sores and pigmented areas of skin are side effects that can occur. Less common complications include; inflammation, blood clots and an allergic reaction, if any of these symptoms occur please consult your practitioner as soon as possible.
Depending on the severity of the veins the treatment session can take up to an hour. Compression stocking must be worn for one week post procedure, and it is advisable to remain active during this time. It is common for the treated veins to look worse before they look better. Result are usually seen after 2-4 weeks.
The procedure costs from £200 per session.
